OPEN ROLE
HTA Statistician
Deliver the statistical evidence behind health technology assessment submissions: indirect treatment comparisons, survival extrapolation and the analyses that reimbursement bodies expect to see.
About the role
Our specialized work includes support for health technology assessment: evidence packages for NICE, CADTH, ICER and similar bodies, and the statistical analyses that go into them. These projects are specialized, deadline-driven and read by expert reviewers.
The HTA Statistician leads that work: network meta-analysis and indirect treatment comparisons, survival extrapolation for economic models, matching-adjusted indirect comparisons, and the statistical sections of submission documents. You work with the Research Coordinator on scope and with the client's health economists on what the model needs.
About you
You have done this before, inside a consultancy, a manufacturer or an academic HTA group, and you know what a reviewer at NICE or CADTH will ask. You are precise about methods guidance (NICE DSU TSDs, ISPOR good practice) and able to explain a choice of extrapolation curve to a non-statistician.
You want project-based collaboration on substantial submissions, with the scope and fee agreed up front.
Key responsibilities
- Design and run network meta-analyses, indirect treatment comparisons and MAICs, with feasibility assessment and reporting.
- Carry out survival analysis and parametric extrapolation for cost-effectiveness models, with model selection documented.
- Write the statistical sections of HTA submissions and respond to assessor questions.
- Produce reproducible code (R or Stata) and clear technical appendices.
- Advise on evidence requirements during project scoping.
- Review HTA-related analyses prepared by colleagues.
Required experience and competencies
- PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology or Health Economics.
- Six or more years of HTA, market access or evidence synthesis work.
- Expert in R (and ideally Stata) for NMA, survival extrapolation and MAIC; familiar with Bayesian NMA.
- Working knowledge of NICE DSU technical support documents, ISPOR guidance and PRISMA-NMA.
- Experience writing for and responding to HTA assessors.
- Clear written English.
- Based in the United States.
ALSO VALUED
- Economic modeling experience in Excel or R.
- Systematic review methodology and GRADE.
- Publications in evidence synthesis.
How we work together
This is a partnership, not a salaried position. Our core team of PhD-level statisticians is in-house; for specialized projects we bring in a partner statistician, also PhD-qualified and based in the United States, who works under our management, our confidentiality terms and our review. When a project that matches your expertise comes in, we bring you into it. The scope and your fee for that project are agreed before any work begins, so there is never an open-ended commitment on either side. A Research Coordinator handles client contact, scoping and timelines, so your time goes to the statistics. Every project is confidential, and so is your application.
HOW WE HIRE
Four Steps, No Surprises
Email, a conversation, a short exercise, then agreement. The process usually takes two to three weeks.
Apply by email
CV, a short note on how you work, and one piece of work you can share.
A conversation
Forty-five minutes with a senior statistician about your experience and ours.
A realistic exercise
A small analysis on a prepared dataset, in your own time. We discuss it together.
Agreement and first project
Clear partnership terms, then your first project, scoped and priced before it starts.
